A 7-vote win in Wisconsin's 17th Senate District race. The official canvass shows that Ernie Wittwer beat Pat Bomhack in the Democratic primary. Wittwer picked up a few more votes from last week's unofficial win by 2-votes. The official canvass: Wittwer received 3,847 votes while Bomhack received 3, 840 votes.
A recount is still possible.
Democratic and Republican leaders say it will be a hard fought election in the fall, when the winner faces Republican Howard Marklein.
The seat had been held by Dale Schultz, a moderate Republican, for over 30 years. Schultz announced in April that he was not seeking re-election.
