On Wednesday, April 17th, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the body of an adult male from Lake Monona.

On Tuesday, April 16th, Rick Krueger, an avid diver and Madison lakes enthusiast was operating his personal side scan sonar on Lake Monona when he discovered what he believed to be a body in approximately 33 feet of water. Rick was familiar with the reports of a missing man over the winter, which Madison Police investigators believed may have fallen through the ice. He immediately contacted authorities and early Wednesday morning, the dive team began a recovery operation.

The body was recovered at about 10:30 am, approximately ¼ mile from Olin Park. At this point, the Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the identity of the individual. This is a joint effort with Madison Police and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

There will be a media conference scheduled for later today by Madison Police to provide more details on the case.
