December 2, 2013 - Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to two serious crashes simultaneously in the town of Springfield. Both calls came in at 12:31 am on Sunday, December 1st.
A head-on crash on STH 19, just east of Kingsley Road left two people trapped in their vehicles. A 2001 Chevrolet Impala traveling eastbound went left of the centerline and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound. The at-fault driver, Klint P. Ketelboeter, age 22 of Dane, and the other driver, Sean M. Van De Loo, age 25 of Mazomanie, both had to be extricated from their vehicles by firefighters. Ketelboeter was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury, and cited for Operating Left of Center. Both drivers were transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. STH 19 was closed from Kingsley Road to Hellenbrand Road from approximately 1:10 am to 2:40 am.
A rollover crash on CTH P, just south of Albe Road occurred when Anthony M. Kruchten, age 27 of Cross Plains, drove left of center, left the road and struck a tree. Kruchten was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was arrested for OWI - 3rd Offense and cited for Operating Left of Center, Failure to Maintain Control, and no seatbelt.
In addition to these two crashes, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies arrested eight other drivers for Operating While Intoxicated between Thanksgiving Day and Sunday, December 1st. According to the WI Department of Transportation, ten people lost their lives in traffic crashes over the holiday weekend.
