Fitchburg has been awarded a $1 million grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

The Transportation Economic Assistance grant will go toward the design and construction of two new streets: Sprocket and Spoke Drives.

According to the City of Fitchburg, the streets will provide safe and more convenient access to businesses Certco Inc. and Saris Cycling Group, Inc.

The city says growing businesses in the Arrowhead Neighborhood will also benefit because the new streets will ease congestion and provide better access.

"We are pleased that the Department of Transportation made this crucial investment in this important infrastructure. It will directly lead to business expansion with job retention and creation, which will help our economy grow by providing more family supporting jobs," said Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff.
