Motorists in portions of Madison were going nowhere fast early Tuesday night, when flash flooding hit the area.

Police say nobody was hurt, but the Isthmus was in gridlock as the storm passed. A portion of East Mifflin was closed for a time due to the deluge.

Officials with the National Weather Service say some parts of town were hit with between 4 and 6 inches, between 5 and 7 p.m..

But the storm missed the Dane County Regional Airport, where precipitation is measured. Still, a new record was set with 1.3-6 inches as of 7 p.m., which surpasses the old record set in 1945 of 1.2-7 inches.
