Lucey also ran for Vice President as an Independent in 1980.  As Governor, he will be remembered best for unifying the UW System and appointing Shirley Abrahamson to the State Supreme Court.

Lucy died Saturday night at the Milwaukee Catholic Home, following a brief illness.  He was 96 years old.
