Free Pets To Qualified Homes! Dog and Cat adoptions are free this weekend! Maddie's Fund is working with 14 communities in nine states throughout the country to find loving homes for 10,000 shelter animals in just two days. Maddie's Fund has earmarked $10 million as a way to give back to participating organizations, donating up to $2,000 per adopted dog or cat.

Last year nearly 8,500 dogs and cats found homes nationwide. Dane County Humane Society, Dane County Friends of Ferals, Angel's Wish, Friends of Noah, and Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin (formerly Rock County Humane Society) joined forces to complete 263 adoptions, raising $238,000 for our community's animals.

Please come prepared! Expect: Long waits! We anticipate lots of people, especially Saturday morning. Please be patient, we will find the right companion for you. If you find a cat or dog to adopt, be prepared to take him or her home THE SAME DAY!

Bring: A government-issued identification card, such as a driver’s license or passport. To speed the process, bring a completed adoption application. You can download the DCHS one here: DCHS Application for Adoption Please visit the Maddie's Fund link above to reach other participating organizations for their application process. Your landlord’s phone number, if you rent. A cat carrier if you intend to adopt a cat or kitten.

If adopting a dog, it is your responsibility to provide your new dog with a leash and collar. New and used carriers, leashes, collars, and other basic supplies are available at the event. If adopting a DOG, consider the following: All members of your household, roommates included, must be present to meet the dog. If you already have a dog, we will schedule a meet-and-greet with the dog you hope to adopt. Do NOT bring your own dog when you initially visit. We have no accommodations for your dog and will not tolerate dogs left in vehicles. Instead, when you find a DCHS dog to adopt, you will have 2 hours during which you can go home to retrieve your dog and return to DCHS for a dog meet-and-greet.

If you would like to adopt a pit bull terrier, please bring proof of home ownership or a copy of your rental unit’s pet policy.

This special event applies to cats and dogs only. If you’d like to adopt a small animal (rabbits, rats, guinea pigs) please visit us another day!
