Madison Police say a man jumped head first out of a second story window while trying to get away from officers.
Police were dispatched to an apartment in the 2200 block of Luann Lane Sunday morning for a welfare check.
While investigating a possible disturbance at the address, police saw a man peering out of the second floor window of the apartment.
Officers say the man suddenly opened the window and jumped out head first. He landed in some shrubbery.
He was able to evade capture at that point and ran away on foot. While running, the man confronted an approaching Fitchburg Police squad car. Officers say the man grabbed hold of the squad's push bar, jumped atop it and rolled across the hood. He tried to continue running away but was apprehended by a Fitchburg officer.
Police identify the man as 26-year-old William Williams. He was taken to the hospital, but he had no serious injuries. He was booked into jail and charged with obstructing an officer.
Police say he apparently fled because he had outstanding warrants for battery, disorderly conduct and a probation violation.
