MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ An Oregon man who co-founded several self-help and personal development companies in Wisconsin has been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to file federal income tax returns.
Wisconsin State Journal reported Tuesday that 42-year-old Eric T. Plantenberg, of Bend, Oregon, was convicted of failing to pay taxes for 2006, 2007 and 2008. It says Plantenberg earned $1.3 million during those years as co-owner of three companies based in Madison _ Personal Freedom Development, Freedom Professional Services and I-Kinetic.
Plantenberg says he made an ``epic mistake'' and ``should have known better.''
His lawyer had asked for probation.
But District Judge Lynn Adelman says prison time is needed to deter others from taking part in tax scams.
