Phone Scam May Cost Grocery Store $15,000

Posted June 1st, 2014 @ 7:18am

MADISON - An area grocery store may be out more than $15,000 after an employee fell victim to a phone scam.

According to the police report, a female employee at the Copps store on Mckee Road in Madison took a phone call from someone claiming to be from corporate headquarters late last week.

The caller convinced the worker to load $500 on 30 Reloadit cards, then provide the caller with the cards scratch off numbers, all part of a supposed recall on the cards.

Similar calls were made to other Copps stores, but no other employee fell victim to the scam.
