Rock County fire kills pets; causes $100,000 damage

On January 22, 2014 at approximately 8:28 p.m., Rock County Deputies along with Fire Departments from: Orfordville, Evansville, Whitewater, Footville, Fitchburg, Brodhead, Shirland, Brooklyn, Janesville, Edgerton, Town of Beloit, Green County EMS, and MD-1 responded to a residential fire at 12626 W. STH 81 in Newark Township.  All occupants safely exited the house however three dogs expired in the fire.  Initial investigation at the scene suggests that the fire started in the garage due to a space heater and there is no indication of anything suspicious in nature.  The fire remains under investigation at this time.  In addition to the house, two vehicles parked in the garage were lost.

 

Traffic was rerouted on STH 81 for over four hours.  The total damage incurred could exceed $100,000.00.
