Rose breeder gives $1M to AIDS Resource Center

MILWAUKEE (AP) - A Wisconsin man who made a fortune by breeding an exceptional rose has donated $1 million to the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the donation from retired landscape architect Will Radler may be the single largest in the fight against AIDS in state history.

Radler is known for breeding the Knock Out rose, a fungus-resistant variety that blooms throughout the season. Steve Hutton, of Star Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle in West Grove, Penssylvania, calls the rose the "iPhone of horticulture."

Radler says that as his royalties from the rose introduced in 2000 increased, he realized he could start giving money away. He says he hopes the donation to the AIDS Resource Center will improve lives.
