Special needs child left in still moving vehicle
Posted February 14th, 2014 @ 8:58am by State Patrol

At 5:35pm a Wisconsin State Patrol Officer attempted to stop a vehicle with multiple equipment violations, at County Road BB and Hwy 51. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and led the Officer on a short pursuit before abandoning the still moving vehicle and the 3 year old special needs child that was in the backseat. The driver then fled on foot into an apartment building, where he was later located and taken into custody.

After the driver fled the moving vehicle, it crashed into the garage door of the apartment building. The child in the backseat was uninjured and was cared for by another Officer until the mother was contacted.

The driver of the vehicle was charged with Eluding an Officer, Reckless Endangerment of Safety, Obstructing/Resisting an Officer, Child Neglect, and Hit and Run.

Both the Madison Police Department and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
