Beloit Police say they have arrested a suspect in an attempted armed robbery early Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. at the night deposit box at the First National Bank on E. Grand Ave.

A woman was at the box completing a transaction when a man armed with a handgun approached.

He demanded money from the woman, and then struggled with her. The victim began to yell, and got the attention of citizens in the area as well as bank employees.

The suspect ran away. Witnesses gave chase but lost him.

Police found the suspect in the 600 block of Church St.

22-year-old Jordan Betker was arrested for attempted armed robbery. Officers say they found a firearm.

The victim was not injured.
