MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ State emergency managers say five people were hurt by flying glass when severe storms moved through southern Wisconsin.

A report from Wisconsin's Emergency Operations Center says the five were injured in and around Platteville. One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The powerful line of storms generated straight line winds and heavy rain. Nineteen homes are uninhabitable in Verona and 150 additional houses sustained minor damage. In Madison, at least 16 homes have severe damage. Several barns were blown down and homes damaged in Green County's York Township.

The National Weather Service says radar showed a rotation over northern Lafayette and southern Iowa counties about 11 p.m. Monday. Forecasters say a possible tornado initially touched down near Mineral Point, lifted and touched down a number of times between New Glarus and Verona.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Officials have declared a state of emergency in Dane County in order to make storm damage recovery assistance available to residents who need it.

A possible tornado tore roofs from houses and blew down part of Country View Elementary in Verona early Tuesday. No serious injuries were reported.

Dane County Emergency Management officials received about 350 reports of storm damage after the storm packing dangerously high winds hit shortly after midnight. Some 15 homes in the city of Verona sustained severe damage.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi is touring the storm damage in Verona and Madison with the county's emergency management director.

Communities will collect damage reports and pass them on to the county which will share them with state officials in hopes of securing a federal disaster declaration.
