UPDATE: Body found in Yahara River identified

UPDATED Monday, June 30, 2014 

The Dane Co. Medical Examiner has identified the body found in the Yahara River Saturday morning as that of 19-year-old Erik Winders of Madison.

Preliminary autopsy results are consistent with an accidental drowning.



UPDATE: June 29, 2014

Dane Co. deputies say a body was found in the Yahara River Saturday morning.

A man called 911 around 3:08 a.m. after finding the body near Squaw Bay. The caller was out fishing in a boat with friends.

An autopsy has been performed and authorities are still investigating the cause of death. The body is that of a man. His identity is being withheld at this time.

At this time the death does not appear suspicious.



Monona Police and the Dane County Sheriff's Department were involved in a body recovery effort early Saturday morning on Lake Monona.


A fisherman called authorities after making the discovery just after 3 a.m. Saturday.


No other details have been released.
