“The Shadow” has shown up for the first time this road construction season on the West Beltline Highway.

Tuesday morning, officers with the Traffic Enforcement Safety Team issued 13 citations and five warnings in 2.5 hours.

One ticketed driver was going 80 mph. He reportedly told officers he was putting the pedal down because all the traffic was making him mad.

The Shadow is a police officer dressed in civilian clothes driving an unmarked MPD car. The officer looks for unsafe driving behaviors, and alerts uniformed officers by radio when they are spotted.

The Shadow will be on the road many times over the next couple months, especially on the W. Betline where road construction projects are numerous. This construction makes the need to pay attention and slow down extremely important.
