MADISON - A major road construction project on Madison's southwest side is being delayed by a couple days.

The state Department of Transportation says changes to traffic patterns on Verona Road will begin Friday morning, rather than Monday morning like previously announced. The delay is a result of cold temperatures and frozen ground.

Beginning Friday morning, the current six lanes will be trimmed down to four lanes, with all northbound traffic between Raymond Road and the beltline shifting to the southbound side.

The entire project is part of a six-year, $175-million plan to improve traffic flow on the stretch of highway that sees more than 20,000 commuters daily.
