Madison begins curbside yard waste collection this week

Madison (WKOW) --  If you've been itching to switch from a winter yard to a spring yard, the City of Madison's ready to help you transition as the city begins its curbside yard and leaf waste collection Monday.

Yard waste is classified as leaves, weeds, garden trimmings, and other plant debris and twigs less than 18" long. You can also place your pumpkins, crab apples, pine cones, and black walnuts with your leaves for collection.

You may also want to consider composting your yard waste at home.

The city's website says collection crews from the Streets Division will do two rotations through the city this springs to collect yard waste material.

After the second collection round is complete, curbside collection won't happen again until the start of fall leaf collection. That program is dependent on the weather and the city will release more information once those dates are set.

The Streets Division also has three yard waste drop-off sites for the use of City of Madison residents and taxpayers ONLY. Those using the site are required to show proof of residency or taxpayer status or they will be denied use of the site.
