Three hurt after vehicle crashes into home in Madison

Three people were taken to the hospital and a woman was arrested after a vehicle crashed into a home on the 3200 block of Portage Road in Madison.

Police say a car driven by Mary R. Owen, 22, of Stoughton was speeding on Portage Rd. about 2 a.m. Sept. 12, 2017 when a witness heard tires squealing followed by a loud boom.

Police say Owen told them that she had been at a bar drinking prior to the crash. She was cited for speeding and arrested for causing injury by drunken driving.

The car  left the roadway and slammed into a home, causing significant damage to the house while also severing a natural gas line.

The home's two occupants had been sleeping and the owner said they awoke to the house shaking and the strong odor of natural gas.

They got out, and could see a car on its roof on the lawn; its engine and other pieces scattered nearby, according to police.

Two passengers, a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were also injured in the crash.
