Truck hits Amtrak train near Columbus in Dodge County

 A truck ran into the side of a moving Amtrak train Friday afternoon, damaging two of the train cars.

The crash happened at the intersection with County Highway BB east of Columbus about 1:25 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2018 just as the Amtrak Empire Builder was leaving city on its way to Chicago. The train departs daily at 12:57 p.m. from Columbus.

There were no injuries to train crew or passengers, according to an Amtrak spokesperson. 

There is no information on any possible injuries to anyone in the truck.

One passenger car and one baggage car were damaged. They may need to be removed from the tracks before the train can continue on.

The truck apparently drove into the side of the train as it passed over Highway BB, according to the spokesperson. The train currently is delayed in its arrival to Chicago.;
