Monroe Street now open after eight months of construction

You can now drive in both directions of Monroe Street, just in time for the busiest travel day of the year.

The outbound lanes re-opened late Wednesday morning, several hours ahead of schedule, after being closed since March.

People that live in the area are glad to see the street return to normal.

However, some minor construction will continue.

City crews will finish installing street signs over the next one to two weeks, which will require temporary parking restrictions.

Metro Transit bus service will fully return to Monroe Street beginning Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.

Drivers won’t be able to park on some stretches of the road between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays until Dec. 7.
