Police identify suspect arrested in Langdon Street attack

After an extensivee investigation, Madison police have made an arrest in the beating early Sunday of a UW-Madison student on Langdon Street.

Jerome Winlsow was arrested about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said at Thursday afternoon news conference.

The victim, a 19-year-old UW-Madison student, was taken to a hospital with injuries to her face after being grabbed from behind and beaten, police say.

“The victim’s injuries were significant,” Koval said.

Officers looked at hours and hours of video,” Koval said. “Ultimately, we had some footage that might be an epiphany of help.”

“Thank God for city wide cameras,” Koval said. “We need cameras to do our job in 2019.”

Leads show that the suspect may have been stalking another student who made it home before they were attacked, Koval said.

Police say witnesses saw the man drag the victim toward Lake Mendota and called for help.
