7 injured in prison van/car collision near Oregon

March 15, 2019 – At 5:43 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at Sun Valley Parkway and CTH D in the town of Oregon. A 2011 Toyota was eastbound on Sun Valley Parkway when the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at CTH D, and struck a transit van belonging to Oakhill Correctional Institution. The van had been traveling southbound on CTH D.The driver of the Toyota, Sarah M. Smith, age 27 of Sun Prairie, was transported by EMS to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The transit van contained six occupants, all of which were transported to UW Hospital by EMS with non-life threatening injuries. The inmates in the van were all on work release from Oakhill Correctional. Arrangements were made to have additional staff from Oakhill Correctional respond to the hospital for assistance
