Popular Madison restaurant to reopen following potential outbreak

MADISON (WKOW) — A Mexican restaurant in Madison will reopen Tuesday after closing over the weekend due to a potential foodborne illness outbreak, according to Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC).

Director of Environmental Health Doug Voegeli told 27 News about 25 people became sick after eating at La Hacienda on Park Street. The restaurant has been closed since Thursday night.

The public health department is continuing to investigate the problem at the Mexican restaurant, but as of Tuesday, officials said: “all corrections have been made and verified by PHMDC.”

Voegeli said this restaurant has had health violations in the past, but he does not believe those violations resulted in any closures.

Health officials are still not sure what caused the outbreak.
