Speeding teen causes wreck in Monona

On Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 at 10:44 pm, the Monona Police and Fire Departments responded to a two vehicle crash on the 6200 block of Monona Drive, Monona, WI.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray, Chrysler 200, being operated by a 16 year old male, was traveling southbound on the 6200 Block of Monona Drive at a high rate of speed. A red, Honda civic was traveling northbound on Monona Drive and was making aleft hand turn into the Taco Johns restaurant when it was struck by the speeding vehicle.

After hitting the Honda, the Chrysler rolled over several times, striking a light pole, trees and shrubbery, and ejecting a 16 year old male passenger from the vehicle.

The two juveniles from the Chrysler and three adults from the Honda were all transported to local hospitals by EMS with serious injuries.

Traffic on Monona Drive was shut down for emergency personnel for approximately 1.5 hours. At this time it is believed that excessive speed was the contributing factor to the cause of the collision. The accident investigation is on-going.
