MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Metropolitan School District is working on plans to put two referendum questions on the ballot next year.
District officials hosted a community input session on thereferendum questionsat La Follette High School Tuesday night.
One of the referendum questions would cover facilities.
The district could ask for about $315 million to cover a new elementary school in the Rimrock area, consolidating the two alternative high schools and major upgrades to the four main high schools.
“The buildings are old and showing their age. And we believe the time is right for a pretty major reinvestment to update these sites,” said Chad Wiese, Executive Director of Building and Administrative Services.
The second referendum question could ask voters to help cover operating costs.
The school board plans to make a decision by May of next year and the questions could show up on the November 2020 ballot.
