Instagram threat over walkout behind closure of two Middleton schools NEW

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Threats made on social media against a student-led walkout closed two Middleton-Cross Plains high schools Tuesday.

In an email to parents Wednesday, the district released new details about the threats, including that they were made on Instagram and targeted a walkout against perceived district inaction on sexual assault allegations.

Students planned to stage the walkout at 10 a.m.

The district made the decision Tuesday to close Middleton High School and Clark Street Community School.

Police, according to the district, supported the decision to cancel classes for the two schools and will have an increased presence around the district Wednesday.

"Late today, we learned of serious and specific threats to students on social media. We take these threats very seriously. We have shared the threats with the Middleton Police Department and they are investigating," the District wrote in an email to parents late Tuesday.

The district's elementary and middle schools will be in session Wednesday.
