Murderer of Beaver Dam man given life sentence

A Dodge County judge gave a Fond du Lac murderer the maximum sentence allowed under Wisconsin law Tuesday.

Circuit Court Judge Martin J. DeVries sentenced Nigel Schultz, 21, Fond du Lac to life in prison with no chance of parole, according to a press release from the Dodge County District Attorney's Office.

Schultz pled no conteston a charge of first-degree intentional homicide in August. He murdered Bradlee Gerke, from Beaver Dam.

Schultz shot Gerke in the back of the head 16 times and then buried the body in a shallow grave, according to the DA’s office.

Authorities found the body Nov. 1 in the town of Lebanon.

Schultz had recently been released from prison and believed Gerke might turn him in for another crime, the DA’s office said.
