Helbachs at risk of losing license over defiance of mask order

MADISON (WKOW) -- Helbachs in Middleton is in jeopardy of losing its food and drink license over its ongoing defiance of the Dane County mask order.

Public Health Madison Dane County confirmed on Wednesday that Helbachs has now been issued three citations due to ongoing violations of the mask order. PHMDC also issued Helbachs a notice this week of its intent to revoke its food and drink license.

Helbachs Coffee Roasters first gained attention after a sign was seen on its doors saying "mask free zone" the day the county's ordinance went into effect.

A public hearing for whether they can keep their license is set for August 25 at 10:00 a.m. Separately, there is also a hearing in September regarding Helbachs' 3 citations for allegedly violating the mask ordinance.

Last month, Casey Helbach said in a post in an online fundraiser that he intends to file a lawsuit against Public Health Madison and Dane County.
