Town of Rutland home badly damaged in overnight fire

TOWN OF RUTLAND (WKOW) -- Early Thursday Morning, Dane County dispatchers say a fire broke out at a residence in the Town of Rutland.

They say the call came in just after midnight for a fire on the 4200 block of County Highway A.

Oregon Area Fire Chief Glenn Linzmeier says there were a man and a woman inside the home when the fire started outside on the porch.

Chief Linzmeier says they both evacuated the home before firefighters arrived. The woman was sent to the hospital after cutting her forearm with glass after breaking through a bedroom window.

The home was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, fire officials say.

Chief Linzmeier says strong winds helped the fire rapidly spread throughout the home and made it difficult for crews to quickly put out the fire.

"[The residents] lost everything, as far as their personal belongings," said Chief Linzmeier. "But they have their lives, and we're very thankful for that."

Officials say crews are still on scene working to put out some hotspots.
