Two cars, credit union hit by gunfire from passing car in Madison

Police have recovered nine shell casings after they say shots were fired from a vehicle Wednesday afternoon, striking two cars and a nearby credit union.

The two occupied cars, including a taxi, were hit after the passenger of a white Mercedes Benz with Illinois plates opened fire near the intersection of East Washington and Fair Oaks avenues.

A round also hit the nearby Dane County Credit Union, according to a Madison police incident report.

There were no reports of injuries, and it does not appear the two vehicles that were struck were intended targets.

Who or what he was shooting at, is not known at this time, according to police.

Witnesses said the Mercedes was heading outbound on East Washington and then turned right on Fair Oaks Avenue. Police have recovered nine shell casings at the intersection.
