Black smoke seen for miles during Madison fire

Madison fire investigators are looking into what caused a fire on the roof of a building Wednesday morning.

Callers to 911 reported the fire around 11:00 a.m. Black smoke was seen coming from the building in the 6500 block of Manufacturers Drive. The building is under construction.

A number of construction workers were on the roof. By the time firefighters arrived a few minutes later, the last of the workers were climbing down from the roof. No one was injured.

There is no damage estimate or cause determined yet.

UPDATE (WKOW) — The Madison Fire Department says there are no injuries reported and all workers escaped the roof safely.

UPDATE (WKOW) — Smoke can be seen from miles at the fire on Manufacturers Drive.

The fire is mostly out now, as of noon. But firefighters are still working.

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison firefighters are responding to a structure fire on Manufacturers Drive.

The fire department was called to 6502 Manufacturers Drive around 11:15 a.m. for a fire on the roof of an industrial building under construction.

The fire department tells 27 News there were workers on the roof, but they were able to get down safely.
