Rain and wind to impact your Thursday

MADISON (WKOW) – If you’re heading back to work today, allow a little extra time due to wet roads and stiff winds.A strong winter storm is moving into Wisconsin from the Great Plains, though we stay on the warm side for most of it. This will mean, don’t expect much snow!

Widespread rain and high winds are likely for the drive to work. Keep both hands on the steering wheel because winds will gust near 40 mph through the early afternoon.Crosswinds will impact east-west roads, like the Beltline, I-94 & I-90 west of the 39 split.During the afternoon, we’ll get some breaks in the rain with temps soaring into the mid to upper 40s before more light rain moves in again at night. We’ll pick up between 0.5″ to 1.25″ of rain with the highest amounts in our northwest communities.

On Friday, periods of light rain and breezy conditions are still expected Friday morning. We’ll likely get some dry time through the mid-afternoon. However, as colder air moves in on the back side of this system, expect a period of light snow in the evening and at night.Minor accumulations are possible, but it won’t be much. Right now, it looks like we could receive up to an inch of new snow.Temps will fall through the day, starting off near 40° in the early morning and ending up below freezing by dinnertime.
