Bitter cold causes black ice on roads

MADISON (WKOW) — This dangerous cold can cause problems on the road.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation wants you to watch out for black ice.

It can form as melting snow refreezes on roads and bridges and it tends to happen most commonly overnight and in the early morning hours when the pavement is colder.

Black ice caused a 10 car pileup in Milwaukee on I-43 Tuesday.

Authorities say black ice is possible through Friday morning.
