Police detain man and woman after rash of Madison robberies

UPDATE (WKOW) — The Madison Police Department said they have a man and woman in custody in connection with a rash of robberies that happened Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to a news release, just before 9 a.m. Wednesday officers were called to Bottle Stop Liquors in the 2700 block of East Washington Avenue.

Witnesses told police a woman had a handgun and tried to rob the business, but left with nothing. An employee said she wanted cash and cigarettes.

The woman got into a car, driven by a man, and sped away. Officers were able to find the vehicle on Johnson Street. The suspects have been detained but not yet arrested.

Police believe this is the same woman who robbed and attempted to rob four other stores on East Washington Avenue.
