Judge declares mistrial in Iowa County reckless homicide case

UPDATE (WKOW) — The judge in the trial of Austin Valdez has declared a mistrial.

According to The Dodgeville Chronicle, jurors came back Friday night and said they could not come to a unanimous decision.

DODGEVILLE (WKOW) — Jurors are deliberating a reckless homicide case in Iowa County.

Austin Valdez, 20, is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Robin Reeson in Ridgeway. Authorities say it was part of a domestic incident. Reeson was married to Valdez’s mother.

According to a criminal complaint, Valdez admitted to shooting Reeson in March of 2018, saying Reeson was beating his mother.

The trial in Iowa County started Monday. After closing arguments Friday morning, the jurors began deliberating the case.
