Mayor Soglin eyes another term, narrowly beats next opponent

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison Mayor Paul Soglin mustered the most votes against his four challengers in Tuesday’s primary, winning narrowly against his next opponent for the general election former alder Satya Rhodes-Conway. Soglin received 10,771 votes with Rhodes-Conway collecting 10,448.

Soglin, who’s served as Mayor for 22 years said during his victory speech his work for the city is far from over. He wants to continue to improve infrastructure, access to health care, and fixing racial disparities.

“We cannot go backward we have to go forward,” said Soglin. “We (need) to figure out a way for paying for all the good work we want to continue within Madison as we close the gap in diversity in regards to economic opportunity.”

In July, Soglin announced he would not seek re-election and then later changed his mind. Before he decided to get back in the mayoral race he called Rhodes-Conway an “eminently qualified” candidate.

The general election will be held on April 2.
