TOWN OF MIDDLETON (WKOW) — Sunflower Days is coming back!
Town of Middleton officials said the event will take place July 26 through August 4 at Pope Farm Conservancy on Old Sauk Road.
The event, originally hosted by The Friends of Pope Farm Conservancy, was canceled in 2018 following “safety concerns due to the large crowds.”
Now it’s being taken over by the Town of Middleton.
“The Town Board thanks the Friends for their effort to delight our residents and many neighbors each year with the glorious sunflowers,” said Cynthia Richson, Town Board Chair. “It’s time we take the [burden] from the Friends and work with event experts who will ensure public safety and the protection of this treasured asset of the Town.”
In a press release, town leaders said the growth of the event was too much, too fast. Growing from a handful of spectators in 2007 to 90,000 in 2017.
This year, event planners are suggesting an admission, parking and shuttle fee to pay for security.
The farmer who rents land at the Pope Farm Conservancy will soon begin planting the 9.5 acres with sunflower seeds for the event.
