Illinois prosecutor is victim of Beaver Dam homicide

BEAVER DAM (WKOW) —A woman is dead and a man is in jail Sunday after a shooting in Beaver Dam Saturday.

It happened on the 300 block of East Third Street just after 2:30 pm.

Neighbors sent 27 News video of Beaver Dam police arresting a man Saturday.

Beaver Dam Police say they took Ulisses Medina Espinoza into custody without issue Saturday.

They say he was inside the home where they found Stacia Hollinshead shot to death.

Tammy Beekman and her mother Barb Kintopp live next door to where the shooting happened.

Beekman was home Saturday when police surrounded her block.

“I was leaving and my daughter and her friend were coming to get me,” Beekaman said. “We were stopped by the cops, told to get back in the car or get in the house, that it wasn’t safe.”

While the shooting itself was shocking enough, Beekman says what bothered her the most was that she believes the woman’s daughter was still inside when it happened.

“It just breaks my heart, my first words is that its heartbreaking,” Beekman said. “She’s going to be traumatized for a long time.”

“She will be traumatized for her lifetime,” Kintopp added.

They’ve lived in Beaver Dam for years and have never heard anything like this happen.

They’re worried it could lead to bigger concerns.

“I just hope that nothing like that is ever happening again or that there’s no retaliation,” Beekman said. “That’s what I keep thinking about. Why did it happen and is there going to be something bad happening because of this now?”

Beaver Dam police say there’s no threat to the general public.

Medina Espinoza is currently being held at the Dodge County Detention center

Beaver Dam police says investigators are working with the Dodge County District Attorney to decide the appropriate charges.
