MADISON (WKOW) — A new memo paints a gloomy picture about the future of Madison’s city golf courses.
In a letter to Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and city alders who sit on the city’s Golf Committee, parks superintendent Eric Knepp says the golf enterprise ended 2018 with a loss of more than $860,000, in part due to flooding at two courses — Odana Hills and Yahara Hills.
Knepp says the golf courses have been struggling for more than a decade and the current financial situation is unsustainable. He recommends the city start a public process to look at the future of the courses.
In the memo, Knepp says the city should look at options like reducing the number of holes and possibly closing courses.
Knepp says the city could also look at the best long-term purpose of the park land currently in use as golf courses.
