Suspect in Madison standoff has surrendered

UPDATE (WKOW) — The suspect in a standoff on Monona Drive that began about 1:30 a.m. has surrendered, according to police.

The man is now in custody. Monona drive is back open in both directions.

Police Chief Mike Koval said at about 1:30 a.m. they received a call from a 72-year-old woman who said her roommate shot a gun. She left the home in the 4000 block of Monona Drive unhurt.

Chief Koval said the suspect has a criminal background and a history of mental illness.
