Officials identify victim of early morning homicide in Madison

UPDATE (WKOW) — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office says Amanda J. Woods, 30, of Madison, was killed early Friday morning in Madison’s first homicide of 2019.

Officials say preliminary autopsy results show that she died from a stabbing. They are continuing to perform additional tests.

The death remains under investigation.

MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Police Department is investigating the city’s first homicide of 2019.

A 30-year-old woman was found dead in a grassy area near a sidewalk at the intersection of Clyde Gallagher Avenue and Darbo Drive at 4:20 a.m. Friday.

The woman had been at a gathering in a nearby apartment before she left early Friday morning, according to a police spokesperson. She was first found by friends, who attempted life saving measures.

Police are currently talking with people who were with the woman last night. Police say she left the gathering about 4 a.m.

The Dane County Medical Examiner has scheduled an autopsy for today.

Authorities said they will release the woman’s name once her family has been notified.
