Chicago man arrested in Madison homicide

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison police have taken someone into custody in connection with the first homicide of the year.

Police say they arrested Lew A. Jefferson, 58, from Chicago on Saturday morning.

He’s been booked into Dane County Jail facing a charge of first degree intentional homicide in thedeath of Amanda Woods.

The 30-year-old Madison woman was found stabbed to death in a grassy area near Darbo Drive early Friday morning.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway released a statement Saturday evening:

“Delighted to learn from Chief Koval that they have a suspect in custody for the recent homicide on the near east side. Credit goes to all the detectives and officers who worked all night long to secure this positive result,” Mayor Rhodes-Conway said.

Police are still investigating what led up to the homicide and is asking anyone who has any information about Jefferson or has had any contact with him in the last six months, to contact the Violent Crime Unit at (608) 243-0550.
