Police believe two downtown break-ins, attempted sexual assault connected

MADISON (WKOW) — Madison police believe a downtown break-in earlier this week may be related to another, similar crime nearby.

In an updated incident report, Madison police said the most recent burglary happened this week on Howard Place, though they did not specify on which block or exactly when the break-in occurred.

Police believe this burglary is related to an Aug. 25 burglary and attempted sexual assault on the 600 block of North Frances Street.

“Both crimes targeted women in the early morning hours in the same geographic area,” police said. “Residents should continue to lock doors and windows and do not hesitate to call for police immediately should you observe suspicious people or activities.”

Police ask anyone with information to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014. Authorities released a picture of a person of interest after the first burglary.
