$250,000 bail for wounded Fitchburg shooting suspect

A Dane County judge set a Fitchburg shooting suspect’s bail at $250,000, as the suspect appeared in court Tuesday with gunshot wounds and in a wheelchair.

“She has two bullet wounds, one in each leg,” attorney Jason Gonzalez said of his client, 22-year-old Shaquita Lee.

A prosecutor says Lee initiated gunfire after a dispute among about eight people on High Ridge Trail in Fitchburg Sunday escalated.

Assistant Dane County District Attorney William Brown says another woman shot in the incident is in critical condition.

“The state does not believe there is really any dispute as to who shot this victim in the head,” Brown said Tuesday.

Brown asked for $500,000 bail, but court commissioner Brian Ausmus cut that request in half. Gonzalez says Lee’s only past infractions are traffic tickets and she legally possessed her gun with a concealed carry permit.
