A federal magistrate judge on Friday ordered the release of a Clinton man accused of having a gun after being banned from possessing firearms due to a past, mental health commitment.
A criminal complaint alleges that Austin Hedges, 23, knowing that he had previously been committed to a mental institution, possessed a .38 caliber pistol.
Conditions of his release prevent Hedges from possessing any weapons.
According to prosecutors, Hedges appeared on social media video with an AR-15 at a June gay rights counter protest in Detroit.
