A Madison firefighter was charged Wednesday with felony maintaining a drug trafficking place and released from the Dane County jail after a court hearing.
In a criminal complaint, authorities maintain 41-year-old Andrey Hansbro witnessed cocaine purchases by undercover police officers from 56-year-old Gerald Moran at Hansbro’s Packers Avenue apartment in September and October. “During a search warrant at Hansbro’s residence cocaine packaged for sale and drug paraphernalia were recovered,” according to a probable cause statement against Hansbro.
The complaint states a detective involved in this drug investigation “…had received a drug tip reference a male identified as Andrey L. Hansbro.”
A court commissioner gave Hansbro a signature bond. Moran was charged with four felony drug crimes including possession with intent to deliver cocaine and had been a fugitive for two years in connection with another, open drug case. Moran’s bail was set at $2,500.
Hansbro was hired by the Madison Fire Department in October 2014. His hire came seven years after Hansbro was convicted of misdemeanor drug possession, and participated in Dane County’s Drug Treatment Court.
City officials say Hansbro was placed on an unpaid, personal leave from his $75,000 firefighting position Mar. 12.
In August 2017, while still an active firefighter, Hansbro’s estranged wife successfully petitioned for a restraining order against Hansbro. In a court-submitted fact sheet, she maintained Hansbro was “…body slaming (sic) me” as she tried to leave their home. Her fact sheet claimed Hansbro told her he had “…stopped using (drugs)” and wanted a reconciliation.
Hansbro is scheduled to appear in Dane County court again for a status conference Nov. 18.
