A major winter storm will impact regional travel Tuesday and Wednesday

MADISON (WKOW) – Treacherous travel can be expected over central and northwest Wisconsin along with parts of Minnesota and Iowa Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Today has been quiet and mild. Along with decreasing clouds we’ve seen afternoon temperatures climb to around 50 degrees, which is well above average!

A strong winter storm will intensify as it moves our way from the Central Plains. We’ll be on the system’s warm side as it moves over Wisconsin Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Therefore, we’ll mainly have rain with this system, beginning Tuesday evening, falling heaviest overnight, and ending as a lighter mix Tuesday morning, with minor accumulating snow possible for our far northern and northwestern areas.

If you’re traveling north, winter storm warnings are in effects for the Twin Cities, northern Wisconsin and the U.P. for 5 to 10 inches of snow along with blowing and drifting snow.
