Wisconsin Guard leader resigns in wake of sex assault review

Wisconsin National Guard commander Major General Donald Dunbar will resign at the end of the month after a federal investigation found the guard defied federal law, regulations and policies on handling sexual assault complaints.

This year the National Guard Bureau reviewed how Wisconsin commanders report, investigate and prosecute sexual assaults

Dunbar has served as the Wisconsin Guard's leader since 2007 but his command has been rocked by allegations of officers brushing off sexual assault complaints and retaliating against victims.

Dunbar will be replaced on a temporary basis by the assistant adjutant general of the Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Gary Ebben.
